We are proud of our air traffic control tower team at the Naples Airport. In this airspace some air traffic control services are provided, especially near airfields, but in much of the airspace it is the pilots’ responsibility to see and avoid each other. RVA has staffed the Naples Air Traffic Tower for over 25 years and has a strong partnership with the Naples Airport Authority, as well as the pilots who rely on their service and professionalism to take off and land safely. The old tower had been built in the 50s when the cargo airport was still an Air Force Base. “The majority of airspace that is left is known as ‘uncontrolled’ and this is used by the military and recreational pilots. Most airliners are monitored by controllers using radar in airways and routes known as ‘controlled airspace’. (They found this out after completion of the sixth runway. Tower-West is built because of a sixth runway (18R - 36L), that wasnt clearly visible from Tower-Center. This airport has two towers called Tower-Center and Tower-West. This will continue through the aircraft’s journey until it is handed over to the controller at the destination airport. I know there are airports with more than one ATC Tower, though I only know it from my own country (SCHIPHOL - EHAM). When an aircraft is nearing the edge of their sector they will coordinate its handover to the next controller. “Each controller is responsible for aircraft in a set piece of airspace. The United Kingdom’s Civil Aviation Authority ( CAA) states: All the schools airplanes are equipped with the ADS-B system, that allows safe monitoring of flights by the Air Traffic Control (ATC) and by other aircrafts. Once in the air, the pilot would usually speak with another controller utilizing a radar screen to track the plane's progress through the airways system, which is dubbed as the sky's version of a freeway.
